| Denoumont | The final Unraveling of the plot in drama |
| Tragic Hero | A person who is neither thoroughly good nor thoroughly evil, but is better than most |
| Tragedy | A term broadly applied to literary, and especially drmatic representations if serious actions which turn ou disastrously for the chief character |
| Catharsis | A "purgation of pity and fear"; realates to audience reaction |
| Hamartia | The "great error or fraility", the tragic flaw |
| Hubris | Overwhelming pride |
| Climax | Turning point in the action |
| Tragic Flaw | Hamartia |
| Aside | A brief remark made by a character and intended to be heard by the audience but not by other characters |
| Comic Relief | A Humorous scene or speech in a serious drama |
| Foreshadowing | A hint of what is to come |
| Paradox | A statement which seems to be contridictory but at the smae time profoundly logical |
| Soliloquy | A speech given by a character alone on the stage |
| Foil | A character that serves as a contrast to another |
| Dramatic Personae | The cast of characters in a play |
| Tour de Force | A feat of strength or virtuosity |
| Hero | The principal male character in a dramatic work |
