| physical property | a characteristic of a substance that does not involve a chemical change such as density . |
| chemical property | relates to a substances ability to undergo changes that transform it into different substances . |
| extensive property | depend on the amount of matter that is present. |
| chemical changes | the substances are formed by the chemical change are called the products. |
| intensive property | do not depend on the amount of matter present. |
| ductility | the ability of a substance to be hammered thin or drawn out into a wire |
| malleability | the ability of a substance to be hammered of beaten into a sheet |
| volume | a measure of the size of a body or region in three dimensional space. |
| compressbility | the measure of how much a given volume of matter decreases when placed under pressure. |
| density | the ratio of the mass of a substance to the volume of the substance. |
| evaporation | the change of a substance from a liquid to a gas |
| sublimation | the process in which a solid changes directly into a gas |
| vaporization | the process by which a liquid or solid changes to a gas |
| element | a substance that cannot be separated or broken down into a simpler substances by chemical means all atoms of an element have the same atomic number. |
| compound | a substance made up of atoms of two or more different elements joined. |
| heterogeneous mixture | mixtures that are not uniform |
| homogeneous mixture | they have the same proportion of components |
| atom | the smallest unit of an element that maintains the chemical properties of that element |
| physical change | a change of matter from one form to another without a change in chemical properties. |
