| physical property | A characteristic of a substance that does not involve a chemical change, such as density,color, or hardness. |
| chemical property | a property of matter that describes a substance“s ability to participate in a chemical reaction |
| extensive property | Directly related to size/amount of a sample |
| intensive property | Not related to the size or amount of a sample |
| ductility | The ability of a substance to be hammered thin or drawn out into a wire. |
| malleability | The ability of a substance to be hammered or beaten into a sheet . |
| volume | A measure of the size of a body or region in three-dimensional space. |
| compressibility | the measure of how much a given volume of matter decreases when placed under pressure. |
| density | Density is the ratio of mass to volume |
| evaporation | the change of a substance from a liquid to a gas. |
| sublimation | The process in which a solid changes directly into a gas. |
| vaporization | The process by which a solid or liquid changes to gas. |
| element | A substance that cannot be broken down into simpler substances by chemical means. |
| compound | A substance made up of two or more different elements joined by chemical bonds. |
| heterogeneous mixture | A heterogeneous mixture is a mixture in which the composition is not uniform throughout the mixture. |
| homogeneous mixture | A homogeneous mixture is a mixture in which the composition is uniform throughout the mixture. |
| atom | The smallest unit of an element that maintains the chemical properties of that element. |
| Chemical change | A change in which one or more substances are converted into different substances . (Chemical RXN) |
| Physical change | A change in a substance that does not involve a change in the identity of the substance. |
