Yr 9 Linear Graphs
Linear and Non-linear graphs
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Cartesian Plane | |
| Quadrant | |
| Substituting | |
| Parallel Lines | Lines with the same gradient |
| Perpendicular Lines | Lines that meet at right angles |
| Negative gradient | Line is sloping downwards |
| Positive gradient | Line sloping upwards ( from left to right) |
| y-intercept | The point where a line cuts the y-axis. Found easily when substituting 0 for x and calculating the y-value. |
| x-intercept | |
| variables | |
| undefined | |
| circle | |
| Hyperbola | |
| Non-Linear relations | |
| Vertical Lines | The gradient is zero |
| Straight Line | formula is y=mx +c |
| Linear Graphs | A straight line graph |
| Parabola | |
| Horizontal Lines | The gradient is undefined |
| Gradient | Measures the steepness of a lines slope |
| Line segment | |
| Intercept | |
| Midpoint | x & y coordinates halfway between oths of the end points |
| Sketching | Using two points draw a line through those points, you don't need a ruler |
