| Hypotonic | 500-1000ml tap water; distends colon; 15-20 mins; H2O intox |
| Isotonic | 500-1000ml NS; 90-1000ml H2O; distends colon; 15-20 mins; Sodium retention |
| Soap suds | 500-1000ml mild soap; irritates mucosa; 10-15 mins; severe irritation |
| Cleansing enema | Water-based, for stool |
| Carminative enema | 2Gly, 1epsom, 3H20; 5-mins; for flatus & stool |
| Retention enema | Oil / medication; soften stool, lubricate canal; 15mins-3hrs retain |
| Return-flow enema | Harris flush; large fluid volume; 100-200ml increments; 5-6x; for flatus |
| Cystoclysis | Bladder irrigation |
| Indwelling cath | Cath left in place for a long-period of time |
