Expressions and Equations

Constant A term without a variable Ex. 5
Variable A symbol used to represent a quantity that can change Ex. x
Coefficient number in front of a variable (multiplied)
Like Terms Terms that contain the same variables raised to the same power.
Distributive Property a(b + c) = ab + ac
Expression a mathematical statement without an equal sign
Equation a mathematical sentence with an equal sign
Simplify to distribute or combine all like terms in an expression
Evaluate to substitute a value in for a variable and determine the value of the expression
Substitute to replace a variable with a number
Perimeter the sum of all the sides of a shape
