These are terms that identify the beginning characteristics of America

TermDefinition
Bering Land Bridge A strip of land that connected Asia, Alaska, and America. This bridge is no longer accessible because of the Ice Age
Paleo-Native Americans These people were considered to be the first people to cross the Bering Land Bridge between 38,000 to 10,000 B.C.
Migration A movement of people or animals from one region to another
Hunter-Gatherers People who hunted animals and gathered wild food. ( Nuts, Berries, greens)
Environments Climates and landscapes that surround living things
Culture A groups' set of common values and traditions, including language, government, and family relationships
Pueblos Above-ground houses made of heavy clay.
Kivas Under-groynd ceremonial chambers
Totems Ancestors or animal spirits on long wooden poles
Teepees Cone shaped shelters made from buffalo skins and wood.
Matrilineal People who trace their ancestry through their mother instead of their father
Iroquois League A confederation of Native American groups Cayaga, Mohawk, Oneida, Onondaga, and Seneca Tribes
Berbers A group of people from Northern Africa
Mansa Musa Mali's most famous ruler, a Muslim king
Hajj A pilgrimage to mecca, or long walk for religious redemption
Mosques Buildings where Muslims pray
Askia The Great This ruler supported education and training
Socrates A great thinker who wanted to make people think and question their own belief
Plato A teacher who wrote the "Republic". the book describes a fair and just society for everyone
Aristotle A teacher who believed in reason
Reason A clear and ordered way of thinking.
Democracy A form of government in which people rule themselves
Knights Defended the Nobles' land and fought on horseback
Black Death Rats were infected with the plague which led to 25 million people dying. They renamed this plague.
Michelangelo One of the greatest Renaissance artists of the period who painted, sculpted, and was considered an architect of his time period
Leonardo Da Vinci was considered one of the greatest artists of the Renaissance period but was also an inventor, engineer, and map maker
Johannes Gutenburg This guy developed a printing press that used movable typing
Joint Stock Companies A business in which people invest together
