| Repetition | Repetition repeats the same words or phrases a few times to make an idea clearer. |
| Rhyme | A rhyme is a repetition of similar sounding words occurring at the end of lines in poems or songs. |
| Onomatopoeia | Imitates the natural sounds of a thing. It creates a sound effect that mimics the thing described. |
| Hyperbole | An exaggerated statement not meant to be taken literally. |
| Alliteration | A number of words, having the same first sound (not always the same letter), occur close together in a series. |
| Metaphor | A comparison between two things not using like, as or than. It is considered a hidden comparison. |
| Simile | A comparison using like, as or than. This is considered a direct comparison. |
| Imagery | The use of language to paint a picture in our head |
| Personification | A figure of speech in which a thing, an idea of an animal is giving human tributes |
| Theme | Theme is defined as a main idea or an underlying meaning of a literary work that may be stated directly or indirectly. |
| Tone | Tone is an attitude of a writer toward a subject or audience. The tone comes from the theme and subject of a text |
| Assonance | Assonance take place when two or more words close to one another repeat the same vowel sound but start with different constant sounds |
