| Term | Definition |

| Compatible Numbers | numbers that are easy to compute with mentally |
| Estimate | to find an answer that is close to the exact amount |
| Inverse Operations | opposite operations, or operations that undo each other, such as multiplication and division |
| Remainder | the amount left over when a number cannot be divided equally |
| Dividend | the number that is to be divided in a division problem |
| Divisor | the number that you are dividing by in a division problem |
| Factor | the number being multiplied in a multiplication problem |
| Partial Quotients | a method of dividing in which multiplies of the divisor are subtracted from the dividend and then the quotients are added together |
| Product | the answer to a multiplication problem |
| Quotient | the number, not including the remainder, that results by dividing |
