What is an addition reaction? Adding groups across a double bond
What is a nucleophilic substitution reaction A reaction where one nucleophile is substituted for another
What is an elimination reaction? A pair of atoms or group of atoms are removed from a molecule. Usually through the action of acids, bases or metals.
What is a reduction reaction?
What is an oxidation reaction?
What is a Grignard reaction?
A carboxylic acid reaction with a base?
What is the markovnikov rule? The hydrogen adds to the carbon of the double bond with the most hydrogens attachec
What is hydration Adding OH-H Across a double bond
What is hydrogenation H2 Is added across a bouble bond
Haloalkanes to alkenes A strong base removes hydrogen as H+ from the Beta carbon and the halogen from the alpha carbon
Beta Elimination The process of converting a haloalkane to an alkene. A strong base removes hydrogen as H+ from the Beta carbon and the halogen from the alpha carbon
Alcohols to alkenes A strong acid (H+) converts the hydroxyl group to water which is easily lost. The Beta hydrogen is lost as a a proton.
What is Zaitsevs rule? Zaitsevs rule states that, the double bond will form in the middle of the molecule as it is the most stable part. This product will form most of the products
What reaction is OH- a reagent for Substitution with base. OH- replaces a halogen
What reactions do NaOEt, KOBut or Other hindered bases catalyse Elimi

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
