| Term | Definition |

| AREA | The amount of space that fills the inside of a two dimensional shape (ex. rectangle or square) LENGTH x WIDTH= AREA (LxW=A) |
| VOLUME | The amount of space that is inside of a 3D shape (ex. Cube) LENGTHxWIDTHxHEIGHT= VOLUME (LxWxH=V) |
| UNIT FRACTION | A single part of a whole. Any fraction in which the numerator is 1. (ex. 1/9 or 1/4) |
| TENTHS | One part out of ten equal parts. Also the first place value position to the right of the decimal. Can be written as a fraction 1/10 or a decimal 0.1 |
| HUNDREDTHS | One part out of one hundred equal parts. Also the second place value position to the right of the decimal. Can be written as a fraction 1/100 or a decimal 0.01 |
| DECOMPOSE | To break a number down into smaller parts that add up to the original value. |
| MIXED NUMBER | A whole number and a fraction together to represent one value. (ex. 3 2/5) |
| IMPROPER FRACTION | A fraction in which the numerator is larger than the denominator. The value is more than one whole. (ex. 14/5) |
| QUOTIENT | The answer in a division equation. |
| DIVISOR | The number that is being divided by. In the equation 12 รท 3 = 4, 3 is the divisor . |
| DIVIDEND | The amount that you want to break up into smaller parts in a division equation. In the equation 36 รท 4 = 9, the 36 is the dividend. |
| REMAINDER | The amount left over after dividing a number into equal groups. |
| MULTIPLES | The result of multiplying a number by another number. Also thought of a skip counting. (ex 3,6,9,12,15,18...) |
| Whole Numbers | Any of the numbers 1, 2, 3, 4 and so on ๐ |
| Vertex | The point at which two rays of an angle, or two line segments meet in a polygon, or three or more sides meet in a 3 dimensional shape. ๐ |
| Straight Angle | An angle that measures 180 degrees. ๐ |
| Rounding | Replacing an exact number with another number that tells about how much. ๐ |
| Right Angle | An angle that measures 90 degrees. ๐ |
| Rectangle | A quadrilateral with opposite sides that are equal, and four right angles. ๐ |
| Obtuse Angle | An angle measuring between 90 and 180 degrees. ๐ |
| Quadrilateral | A polygon with four sides. ๐ |
| Product | The answer to a multiplication problem. ๐ |
| Polygon | A 2D, closed figure with 3 or more sides. ๐ |
| Point | An exact location in space. ๐ |
| Expanded Form | Writing the number by adding the value of each digit. ๐ |
| Written Form | Writing a number using only words. ๐ |
| Standard Form | Writing a number by using only digits. ๐ |
| Place Value | How much a digit is worth depending on its place in the number. This determines the value of a digit in a number. ๐ |
| Perpendicular Lines | Lines that intersect to form right angles. |
| Parallel Lines | Lines that are the same distance apart and never meet. |
| Perimeter | The distance or boundary around a figure. Formula for a quadrilateral is L+L+W+W=P |
| Parallelogram | A quadrilateral whose opposite sides are parallel. |
| number sentence | A sentence that is made up of numbers and a relation symbol (=, >, <). |
| Ray | A part of a line with one endpoint that continues forever in the other direction. |
| line segment | A part of a line that ends at two endpoints. |
| Line | A straight path extending in both directions without an endpoint. |
| Fraction | A way to express part of a whole. Has a numerator and denominator. |
| Equivalent Fractions | Two or more fractions that have the same amount. |
| Denominator | The part of a fraction that represents the total number of parts in a whole. (bottom number) |
| Numerator | The part of a fraction that represents the number of parts or pieces you have. (top number) |
| angle | A figure formed by two line segments or rays and having a shared endpoint. |
| acute angle | An angle measuring less than 90 degrees. |
| Factors | A number that is multiplied by another number to find a product. |
| Prime | A number with only two factors 1 and itself. |
| Composite | A number with more than 2 factors. |
| Sum | The answer that you get when you add two or more addends together. |
| Difference | The answer that you get when you subtract two numbers from each other. |
| Expression | A number sentence that does not include an answer. |
| Equation | A number sentence that includes an answer. |
| Variable | A letter in a math equation that replaces a value/ number. |
