| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| acute angle | an angle with a measure that is greater than 0 degrees and less than 90 degrees |
| acute triangle | a triangle that has three acute angles |
| angle | a geometric shape formed when two rays share the same endpoint |
| degree | the unit used to measure an angle |
| endpoint | the point at the beginning of a ray or line segment |
| intersecting | lines that meet or cross each other |
| line | a straight set of points that extend forever in opposite directions |
| line of symmetry | the fold line indicating that a figure's two halves match exactly |
| line segment | a part of a line between two endpoints |
| line symmetry | If a figure can be folded over a line so that one half of the figure matches the other half, it has line symmetry. |
| obtuse angle | an angle that measures greater than 90 degrees but less than 180 degrees |
| obtuse triangle | a triangle with one obtuse angle |
| one-degree angle | an angle that turns through 1/360 of a circle |
| parallel | lines that are always the same distance apart; lines that do not meet |
| parallelogram | a quadrilateral with opposite sides equal in length and parallel; opposite angles have the same size |
| perpendicular | lines that meet or cross each other to form right angles |
| point | an exact location represented by a dot |
| ray | a part of a line that has one endpoint and goes on forever in one direction without ending |
| rectangle | a quadrilateral with 4 right angles; both sets of opposite sides are equal in length and parallel |
| rhombus | a quadrilateral with 4 equal sides; opposite sides are equal in length and parallel. |
| right angle | an angle with a measure of 90 degrees |
| right triangle | a triangle with one right angle |
| square | a quadrilateral with 4 right angles and 4 equal sides; opposite sides are equal in length and parallel |
| trapezoid | a quadrilateral with exactly one pair of parallel sides |
