QuestionAnswer
What is Underwater Ship's Husbandry Inspection, maintenance, repair of Navy hulls and appendages while the hulls are waterborne
Primary goal of UWSH Provide a permanent repair without dry-docking the ship. If this is not possible, then temporary repairs allowing the ship to operate until it can be dry-docked.
Berthing requirements 20' from pier (Carriers) 4' from pier (all others) 6' from keel to bottom (when diving below bilge keel or max beam on subs)
Rules for deploying standby as working diver 1. Ship's Husbandry or UCT, not for salvage 2. surface-supplied, No-D, 60fsw or less 3. Same job/location as other diver(s) 4. Work area determined free of hazards by first diver --May deploy outside confined space to tend working divers
50 ft rule -Diving within 50 ft of active suction (same side of keel) maintaining suction of 50gpm or more not authorized unless as emergent repair. -Requires authorization from CO of tended vessel and repair activity -Divers briefed on location of suctions,
Dive Sup shall determine if sea suction is a safety hazard prior to dives when... -Maintaining less than 50gpm and less than 50 ft away from dive site -Maintaining 50gpm or more, less than 50 ft away, but on opposite side of keel
Enclosed space requirements -EGS, ORM -Tended by another diver outside the space (except ballast tanks) -Number of tending divers depends on situation and supervisor/planners
3 Requirements for diving on ships in a nest 1. Outboard ship must fly code Alpha 2. All suction within 50 ft path of divers tagged out on both ships 3. Both ships pass the word that divers are in the water
Diving within ____ of active ICCP system requires________ and __________. -15 ft -wearing full dry suit, unisuit, or wet suit with hood and gloves -maintaining clear comms among divers, topside, and inboard ship's force personnel
Diving within active sonar Dive Manual Appendix 1A
Diver dress/unkown sonar distance requirements -wet-suit hooded/start at 600yds, move in to diver comfort -wet-suit unhooded/start at 1000yds, move in to diver comfort -helmeted/start at 3000yds, move in to diver comfort
