what are the Five Pillars? Faith To become a Muslim Prayer Five times a day, Muslims face Mecca to pray. Alms Fasting During the Islamic holy month of Ramadan Pilgrimage Muslims who are physically and financially able perform the hajj, or pilgrimage to Mecca.
What was the way of life for Islams? Believers were not allowed eat porks or intoxicating beverages. Unlike many religions, Islam had no central positions or the religions or priests.
What was the source of the authority? The source of the authority was Allah. Allah expressed feeling to angel Gabriel and Gabriel revealed to Muhammad.
What place was Mecca? Arabs introduced the worship of many gods in this place and it was associated with the believers who were gonna be the prophets later with Muhammad.
Why the Muhammad got pledges to the Meccans. Because Muhammad was considered as a last and the greatest prophet that will make the world peaceful again.
What did people used as a guide? They used the Qur’an and Muhammad’s actions as guides to leadership.
What did Muslim state did after Abu-Bakr's death? Muslim state controlled all of Arabia. Muslim armies conquered Syria and lower Egypt, which were part of the Byzantine Empire.
What did group of Sufi did? They rejected the luxurious life of the Umayyads and they pursued a life of poverty and devotion to a spiritual path.
What is the one difference between Sunni and Shi'a? Sunni believe that the first four caliphs were rightly guided and Shi'a believe that Ali, Muhammad’s son-in-law, should have succeeded him.
What was sakks? Sakks was pronounced “check.” Thus, using checks dates back to the Muslim empire.
Explain the Muslim society. The upper class included those who were Muslims at birth. Converts to Islam were in the second class.The third class consisted of the “protected people” and included Christians, Jews, and Zoroastrians. The lowest class was composed of slaves.
What did the slaves did ? Many slaves were prisoners of war, and all were non-Muslim. Slaves most frequently performed household work or fought in the military.
What did Qu'ran mentioned about the genders? “Men are the managers of the affairs of women,” and “Righteous women are therefore obedient.” However, the Qur’an also declares that men and women, as believers, are equal.
what did men do when they wanted to divorce their wife? Muslim women were still expected to submit to men. When a husband wanted to divorce his wife, all he had to do was repeat three times, “I dismiss thee.” The divorce became final in three months.
What was women's role? Women were responsible for the raising of the children. Women supervised the household and its servants. They had access to education, and among them were poets and scholars.
