Na+ location: fluid outside cells function: protect against fluid loss, necessary for muscle contraction and transmission of nerve impulses
Mg 2+ location: fluids inside cells, bone function: present in many enzymes, needed for energy generation and muscle contraction.
Cl - location: fluid outside cells, gastric juices function: maintain fluid balance in cells, helps transfer CO2 from blood to lungs
HCO3 - location: fluid outside cells function: control acid base balance in blood
HPO4 2- location: fluids inside cells, bone and teeth function: control acid base balance in cells.
