ABC Recording (anectdotal observation) A format of direct, continuous observation in which the observer records a descriptive temporally sequenced account of all behaviors of interest and the antecedent conditions and consequences for those behaviors in the client's natural environment
behavior checklist A checklist that provides descriptions of specific skills and the conditions in which each skill should be observed. Checklists can observe singular or multiple behaviors or skill areas. Usually use Likert scale to rate responses
Behavioral Assessment A form of assessment that uses a full range of inquiry methods (observation, interview testing, and the systematic manipulation of antecedent and consequent controlling variables. Designed to discover resources and obstacles that surround the possible tar
Behavioral cusp A behavior that has sudden dramatic consequences that extend well beyond the idiosyncratic change itself it exposes the person to new environments and stimulus controls
ecological assessment An assessment protocol that acknowleges complex relationshipsbetween environment and behavior. A method for obtaining data across multiple settings and persons
function based definition designates responses as members of the targeted response class solely in terms of their common effect on the environment
habilitation (adjustment) occurs when a person's repertoire has been changed such that short and long term reinforcers are maximized and short and long term punishers are minimized
normalization The belief that people with disabilities should be integrated into society no matter how severe the disability
pivotal behavior A behavior that produces corresponding modifications in other untrained behaviors (see behavioral cusp)
reactivity Effects of an observation and measurement procedure. Occurs when the procedure is obtrusive and the subject is aware of the observer and the purpose ovf observation
relevance of behavior rule holds that only behaviors likely to reinforcement in the person's natural environment should be targeted for change
social validity refers to the extent to which target behaviors are appropriate, intervention procedures are acceptable, and important changes in target and collateral behaviors are produced
target behavior The response class selected for intervention can be defined functionally or topographically
topography based definition defines instances of the targeted response class by the shape or form of the behavior
