Lesson 5.3 Bohr
Lesson 5.3 Bohr Atomic Model
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Planetary model of the atom | Electrons move around the nucleus in fixed cylindrical orbits |
| quantized | only certain values are allowed |
| ground state | The lowest energy state of an atom |
| absorb | to take in |
| emit | to give off |
| excited state | when an atom absorbs energy, its electrons move to a higher energy level |
| energy level diagram | A schematic drawing used to arrange atomic orbitals in order of increasing energy levels. |
| quantum numbers | numbers having only specific allowed value and used to characterize the arrangement of electrons in an atom. |
| electron orbital | how electrons are spatially distributed surrounding the nucleus; the area where an electron is most likely to be found |
| energy level | The shells that hold electrons |
| valence electrons | Electrons on the outermost energy level of an atom |
| Bohr Model | model of an atom that shows electrons in circular orbits around the nucleus |
