Argument Vocabulary
| Term | Definition |

| argument | value statements supported by evidence whose purpose is to persuade or explain |
| audience | the people who watch, listen to, view, and/or read something presented |
| claim | an assertion of the truth of something, often a value statement backed by evidence to support the assertion of truth |
| cohesion | the action of forming a unified whole; the quality of being united logically |
| counterclaim | claims that rebut a previous claim or value statement, generally supported by evidence contrary to that which was presented to support the original claim |
| editing | the process by which an author improves a text by correction errors in grammar and conventions |
| evidence | facts and/or information presented together as a body of support for a claim or value statement |
| reasons | an explanation or justification for a claim, action, or value statement; drawing conclusions using a process of logic |
| relevant evidence | details and other elements that are closely connected and appropriate to that which is being argued or explained. |
