Topic Vocabulary

TermDefinition
Denominator The bottom part of a fraction.
Numerator The top part of a fraction.
Fraction A Piece of a whole. Examples: 1/3, 3/4, 2/7
Dividend A number being divided by the divisor.
Divisor The 2nd number in a division problem.
Product A solution to a multiplication problem
Quotient The solution to a division problem.
Simplify To reduce a number to its simplest form.
Multiples Products and are infinite.
Constant Speed The speed stays the same overtime.
Common Factor Used to simplify.
Common Multiple A common multiple of 2 numbers
Diameter A segment that passes through the center of a circle and has both endpoints on the circle. It could also mean the length of a segment.
Convert (Conversion) To convert to something else.
Substitute To replace the variable with a number.
Rate A ratio involving two quantities measured in different units.
Equivalent Rate To divide or multiply the numerator and the denominator by the same number.
Unit Rate The rate for one given quantity.
Ratio Every x units of one quantity there are y units of another quantity.
Equivalent Ratios Ratios that express the same relationship.
Unit Price The price of one item.
Formula A rule for algebraic expressions.
Units of measure The definite magnitude of a quantity.
Proportion Two equal ratios (fraction). Also a comparison of two things according to their particular relationship in measurement. When the relationship is equal.
