What did the Anglo settlers say the Law of April 6th went against? Constitution of 1824
Why did Mexico place a tariff on goods from the US to Texas? To try to get Texans to trade with Mexico instead of the US. They hoped this would help Texans become more “Mexican”
What were the Turtle Bayou Resolutions? (Why were they written and what did it say?) First organized protest against Mexico. Stated that they supported Santa Anna and the Constitution of 1824

What was the difference between the Centralists and the Federalists? Centralists wanted the national government to be very strong and the Federalists wanted the states/people to have more say or control in the government

What did the Convention of 1833 state? (What was it asking for?) Texas become its own state, resume American immigration, jury trials, postal and education system as well as other items
What demands did Santa Anna agree to from the Convention of 1833? Jury trial and resume American immigration
Why was Austin put in prison? He wrote a letter suggesting Texas set up its own state government
Why did Santa Anna end up losing the support of the Texas settlers? He became a dictator and did away with the Constitution of 1824
What was decided as the goal for fighting in the Consultation of 1835? Texans were fighting for the Constitution of 1824
Why was the Provisional Government of Texas weak? Governor Henry Smith and the General Council disagreed on many issues like the goals of the war
What battle began the Texas Revolution and what started the battle? Battle of Gonzales; fought over a cannon
What was a nickname of the Battle of Gonzales? Lexington of the Texas Revolution
What was the importance of the capture of Goliad? Texans got many valuable supplies that Cós had left behind
Why did some believe the Alamo was important to defend? It was along important road and the last stronghold
William Travis - Defender and hero of the Alamo. He sent several letters requesting reinforcements for the Alamo. He became the main leader at the Alamo.
Jim Bowie - Defender and hero of the Alamo. He was the leader of the volunteers until he became very sick during the siege. Died while in bed during the battle.
Davy Crockett – Defender and hero of the Alamo. Congressman from Tennessee who brought about a dozen men with him to the Alamo
What was Susanna Dickinson’s role in the Alamo? She was allowed to leave the Alamo and carried a message to Sam Houston from Santa Anna that warned Houston
Why was the Alamo so important? It made the Texans more determined to fight/get their freedom and it allowed the Texans to declare their independence
What happened at the Goliad Massacre? The Mexican army opened fire on the Texan prisoners about a mile outside of Goliad killing over 300 men.
What was the effect of the Goliad Massacre? It convinced many that Santa Anna was a cruel and brutal man and made many Americans begin to support the Texans.
What was the Runaway Scrape? A mass movement of Texans, mostly Anglos, fleeing Santa Anna
Where and when did the Convention of 1836 take place? Washington-on-the-Brazos, March 1, 1836
When was the Declaration of Independence for Texas signed? March 2, 1836

What was the name of the treaty signed between Texas and Santa Anna? Treaties of Velasco
Why did the Mexican government not accept the Treaties of Velasco? Mexico refused to accept the treaties since Santa Anna was a prisoner when he signed them
