Unit 4: Ratios

Ratio Reasoning terms

TermDefinition
per for each or for every. The word per can be used to express a rate, such as $2 per pound.
rate a ratio that tells the number of units of one quantity. Rates are often expressed using the word per.
equivalent ratios two ratios that express the same comparison.
ratio a way to compare to quantities (things).
unit rate the numerical part of a rate.
percent per 100. A rate per 100.
equivalent fractions two or more different fractions that name the same part of a whole.
symbol a letter, group of letters, character, or picture that is used instead of a word or group of words.
compare to describe the relationship between the value or size of two numbers or quantities.
ordered pair a pair of numbers (x,y) that describes a location of a point on a coordinate plane.
coordinate plane a two dimensional space formed by two perpendicular number lines called axes.
