Question | Answer |
---|---|
Arithmetic Sequence | A sequence in which the difference between any two consecutive terms is the same. |
Common Difference | The difference between any two consecutive terms in an arithmetic sequence. |
Constant of Variation | The slope,or rate of change,in the equation y=kx, represented by k. |
Constant Rate of Change | The rate of change between any two data points in a linear relationship is the same or constant. |
Dependant Variable | The variable in a relation with a value that depends on the value of the independant variable. |
Direct Variation | A special type of linear equation that describes rate of change. A relationship such that as x increases in value, y increases or decreases at a constant rate. |
Family of Functions | A set of functions that is related in some way. |
Functio Notation | A way to name a function that is defined by an equation. In function notation, the equation y=3x-8 is written as f(x)=3x-8. |
Independant Variable | The variable in a function with a value that is subject to choice. |
Line of Fit | On a scatter plot, a line drawn that is very close to most of the data points. The line that best fits the data. |
Linear Equation | An equation in which the variable appear in separate terms and neither variable contains an exponent other than one. The graph of a linear equation is a straight line. |
Linear Relationship | Relationship that have straight line graphs. |
Point-Slope Form | An equation of the form y-y1=m(x-x1), where m is the slope and (x1,y1) is a given point on a nonvertical line. |
Rate of Change | A change in one quantity with respect to another quantity. |
Sequence | An ordered list of numbers. |
Slope | The ratio of the rise, or vertical change, to the run, or horizontal change. The slope descirbes the steepness of the line. |
Slope-Intercept Form | A linear equation in the form y=mx+b, where m is the slope and b is the y-intercept. |
Subsitution | Use algebraic methods to find an exact solution of a system of equations. |
System of Equations | A set of two or more equations with the same variables. |
Term | Each number within a sequence is called a term. |
Vertical Line Test | If any vertical line drawn on the graph of a relation passes through no more than one point on the graph for each value of x in the domain, then the relation is a function. |
X-Intercept | The x-coordinate of a point where a graph crosses the x-axis. |
Y-Intercept | The y-coordinate of a point where a graph crosses the y-axis. |
