Mononucleosis Disese caused by the Epstein-Barr virus causing fatigue, fever, sore throat, and swollen lymph nodes lasting 4-6 weeks
Non-Hodgkins's lymphoma Cancer of lymphois tissue which involves uncontrolled multiplication and metastasis of undifferentiated lymphocytes, with swelling of the lymph nodes, spleen, and Peyer's patch
Sentinel node The first node that receives lymph drainage from a body area suspected of being cancerous. Examination gives the best indication if there has been metastasis through the lymph vessels
Splenomegaly Enlargement of the spleen due to accumulation of infectious organism
Tonsillitis Inflammation of the tonsils due to bacterial infection. They become red, swollen and sore.
Elephantiasis Tropical disease where the lymphatics become blocked with parasitic round worms, causing swelling of enormous proportions
Hodgkin's disease Malignancy of lymphois tissue with symptoms of swollen, nonpainful lymph nodes, fatigue, intermittent fever, and night sweats. Characterized by giant Reed-Sternberg cells,which are malignantly transformed B cells.
Lymphadenopathy any disease of the lymph nodes
Lymphanogiography Procedure where lymphatic vessels are injected with radiopque dye then visualized with X -rays
Lymphoma Any neoplasma of lymphoid tissue, whether benign or malignant
