Grammar Vocabulary (
Basic vocabulary for grammar terms.

| Noun | a person, place or thing |
| Pronoun | a word that replaces a noun |
| Adjetive | a word that modifies a noun or pronoun |
| Adverbs | there are three kinds of adverbs: adverbs that modify verbs; adverbs that modify adjetives; adverbs that modify other adverbs |
| Verbs | there are two kinds of verbs: action and linking. an action verb shows the action of the sentence. Linking verbs are state of being verbs. They either link or connect the subject of the sentence to another noun or to an adjetive |
| Direct Object | is a noun or pronoun that directly receives the action of an action verb |
| Indirect object | is the noun or pronoun that indirectly receives the action of the action verb. An indirect object the noun or pronoun to whom or for whom something is done |
| Prepositional Phrase | groups of words that show position, direction, or how to words or ideas are related to each other. A prepositional phrase contains two parts a preposition, and an object of the prepsition. (at five-thirty, in the house) |
| Phrases | are groups of words that do not contain a subject and a verb |
| Clauses | are groups of words that DO contain a subject and a verb. THere are two kinds: independent which can stand alone, and dependent which can't. |
| Conjunctions | connect individual words or groups of words. Most common ones are "and, but, or, nor,both" |
| Interjections | are words or phrases used to express strong emotion or suprise |
| Infinitives | are verb form introduced by the word "to". Infinitives are the unconjugated, simplest forms of the verbs. "to draw, to think" |
| Antecedents | the noun that pronouns refer to or replace |
| Helping verbs | help to form some of the tenses and voice of the main verb |
| Simple sentences | contain one independent clause |
| Compound sentences | contain two independent clauses |
| Complex sentences | contain one independent clause and one depentendent clause |
| Compound-complex sentences | Contain two independent clauses and one dependent clause |
| Active Voice | a verb is in the active voice if the subject is doing the action in a sentence |
| Passive voice | a verb is in the passive voice if the subject is receiving the action instead of doing it |
