fossil | the trace or remains of an organism that lived long time ago, most commonly preserved in sedimentary rock |
trace fossil | a fossilized structure, such as a footprint or coprolite that formed in sedimentary rock by an anmial on or within soft |
climate | the weather condidtions in an area over a long period of time |
ice core | a long cylinder of ice obtained from drilling through ice caps por ice sheets: used to study past climate |
bands | layers in ice cores |
relitive dating | any method or detemining wheather an event or object is older tor younger that other object |
superposition | a princible that states that younger rcoks lieabove older rocks if layers have not been disterbed |
unconformity | a break in the geologic record created when rock layers are eroded o when sediment is not deposeted for e period of time |
geologic column | an ordered arrangment of rock layers that is based on the relative ages of the rocks adn which the oldest rocks are at the bottom |
