the 9 aspects

| 1st aspect | beliefs |
| what are beliefs | can be very different to each religion as they are not reliant on scientific evidence, related to aspects beyond the physical world that is to big for science, they outline the ideas of god gods the meaning of life, universe and our relationship with it |
| example of beliefs | islamic culture believes that a women should cover her head or her whole body |
| 2nd aspect | sacred stories/myths |
| what are sacred stories/myths | are often created to interpret difficult to understand concepts of a religion into an easy to understand form, are said to be the most fun and memorable parts of religion as they can be retold and made into traditions as well as making more up |
| example of sacred stories/myths | catholics tell stories of the death and resurrection of Jesus, Aboriginal Australians tell the story of the rainbow serpant |
| 3rd aspect | spaces, places, times and artifacts |
| what are spaces, places, times and artifacts | while they are all different the four elements and different they can all be put together to fit into the physical, geographical and calendar aspects of a religion |
| sacred place | is a specific location set aside for religious practises (e.g churches), but also places for pilgrimage such as Macca, Rome and Jerulsaem |
| sacred space | is also an area for prayer and religious practises but are contained within a place of temporary spaces (e.g alters) |
| artifacts | can be historic elements of a religion or objects that help perfrom rituals (e.g chalices) |
| examples of spaces, places, times and artifacts | spaces - churches, mosques, synagogues places - alters, tabernacles, corner with pray mat times - christmas artifacts - historic jewellery, bones, chalices |
| 4th aspect | sacred texts |
| what are sacred texts | the big texts are the foundation of a religion in which the whole religion bases their beliefs off, while religions are different many religons follow the same text |
| sacred texts example | the holy bible and the holy quran |
| 5th aspect | spiritual/religious experiences |
| what are spiritual/religious experiences | experiences that go beyond the normal earthly experiences and give people in that religion a closer connection with their given gods or gods. Rituals/traditions are the event but the experience is the underlying feeling when undertaking that event to god |
| examples of spiritual/religious experiences | feeling close to god through prayer |
| 6th aspect | ethics |
| what are ethics | are the rules and principles to guide that particular religion, ethics are the actions to help individuals in a religion to know what is right to do and what it wrong |
| example of ethics | the 10 commandments |
| 7th aspect | social structure |
| what is social structure | the way individuals inside the religion are organised, this outlines the different roles each person plays within a religion |
| example of social structure | the hierarchy system |
| 8th aspect | symbols |
| what are symbols | display the beliefs, values and traditions of that religion through an easy to understand visual image, symbols are displayed in a simple form but there is always a deeper meaning to each symbol |
| examples of symbols | christian cross, fish and dove |
| 9th aspect | rituals |
| what are rituals | are the repeated actions in a religion, they outline the idea of having a belief or idea in one's mind then putting it into an action so that physical form of belief can be repeated several times |
| examples of rituals | muslim butchers undergoing many steos before selling their meet to allow it to be holy and halal, or christians reading the same story every year at christmas |
