# Exponent Rules

### Rules involving exponents and how to simplify exponential expressions

The property that states : "When multiplying powers with the same base, add the exponents" Product of Powers
The property that states : "When dividing powers with the same base, subtract the exponents" Quotient of Powers
The property that states : "Any base raised the zero power is equal to one" Zero Exponent
The property that states : "When raising a power to a power, multiply the exponents" Power of Powers
The property that states : "When raising a product to a power, give that power to all of the factors" Power of Products
The property that states : "When raising a quotient to a power, give that power to the numerator and the denominator" Power of Quotients
This is a way to write large and small numbers using powers of 10 Scientific Notation
When raising the number "3" to the "-2" power, you get "1/9". What is this property called? Negative Exponents
When multiplying "(3x)(5x^2)" what should you multiply first? Coefficients
What operation do you do with the exponents in this problem? "(x^2)(x^7)" Add
What operation do you do with the exponents in this problem? "(x^2)^5" Multiply
What operation do you do with the exponents in this problem? "(x^9)/(x^-3)" Subtract
