| inequality | a mathematical statement that uses an inequality symbol (< or >) to show the relationship between expressions with different values |
| expression | a group of one or more numbers, unknowns, and/or operation symbols that represents a quantity; for example 3 x 4 |
| compare | to decide if numbers, amounts, or sizes are greater than, less than, or equal to each other |
| greater than symbol (>) | a symbol used to compare two numbers when the first is greater than the second |
| less than symbol (<) | a symbol used to compare two numbers when the first is less than the second |
| place value | the value of a digit based on its position of a number; for example, the 2 in 3.52 is in the hundredths place and has a value of 2 hundredths or 0.02 |
| multiple | any given number times every other number |
| quotient | the answer in a division problem |
| sum | the answer in an addition problem |
| product | the answer in a multiplication problem |
