Unit 5A Vocabulary
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Kelvin temperature | A scale which starts at absolute zero, where kinetic energy is zero meaning molecules are not moving. |
| Pressure | Force per unit area |
| Ideal gas | Gas particles take up no space and exchange no energy when they collide. |
| Volume | A measure of the amount of space something occupies. |
| Temperature | A measure of the average kinetic energy of a particle. |
| Kinetic Energy | Energy that an object has because it is moving. |
| Constant | A fixed or unchanging value. |
| Directly Proportional | 2 variables that move in the same direction. Example: If Temperature increases, volume increases. |
| Inversely Proportional | 2 variables that move in the opposite direction. Example: If pressure goes up, volume goes down. |
| Molar Mass | The mass, in grams, of 1 mole of a substance. Found on the periodic table. |
| Mole | The SI unit to measure amount of a substance. 1 mole of any substance contains 6.02 x 10^23 particles. |
| STP | Standard temperature and pressure; 273 K and 1 atm |
