TermDefinition
to slur (verb), a slur (noun) make damaging or insulting insinuations or allegations about. "He tried to slur the woman's integrity" or an insinuation or allegation about someone that is likely to insult them or damage their reputation. "the comments were a slur on the staff"
term of endearment (noun) A term of endearment is a word or phrase used to address or describe a person for which the speaker feels love or affection. Terms of endearment are used for a variety of reasons, such as parents addressing their children and lovers addressing each other.
informal language (noun) Informal language is more casual and spontaneous. It is used when communicating with friends or family either in writing or in conversation. (personal emails, text messages) The tone of informal language is more personal than formal language.
formal language (noun) Formal language is a style of speech used when you are speaking to someone you don't know or on whom you want to make a good impression.
to ban (verb), a ban (noun) officially or legally prohibit. "he was banned from driving for a year" or an official or legal prohibition. "a proposed ban on cigarette advertising"
nefarious (adjective) (typically of an action or activity) wicked or criminal. "the nefarious activities of the organized-crime syndicates"
derogatory (adjective) showing a critical or disrespectful attitude. "he is always making derogatory remarks"
discernment (noun) the ability to judge well. "an astonishing lack of discernment"
discretion (noun) the quality of behaving or speaking in such a way as to avoid causing offense or revealing private information. "she knew she could rely on his discretion"
situational (adjective) relating to or dependent on a set of circumstances or state of affairs. "team members need situational awareness to anticipate needs"
