Metric system The measurement based on each 10.
Meniscus The upper part of a liquid in a tube.
Base The bottom part where you can move the microscope from one place to the next.
Low Power Objective Lens Lens that has medium magnification. 10x
High Power Objective Lens Lens that have the highest magnification. 40x
Arm The top part where you pick up and move the microscope.
Revolving Nosepiece Keeps the objective lens in place.
Body Tube Combines the eyepiece or ocular lens to the nosepiece.
Stage Keeps the slides from falling on the ground.
Stage Clips Keeps the slides from moving.
Diaphragm Regulates how much light enters the experiment.
Field Of View What you can see at a certain distance.
Coarse Adjustment Knob Helps keep a good picture of the image. When the microscope is on high power don’t use this.
Fine Adjustment Knob Helps sharpen the organism.
Eyepiece (Ocular) The place you look through the microscope. Automatically has a magnification of 10x.
Total Magnification Multiply the eyepiece magnification times the objective magnification.
Wet Mount Secures the specimen to the slide.
Slide The piece that has the organism cells.
Coverslip On top of the slide to keep the cells from falling.
Staining Sees the cells of an organism's transparent model and organelles.
Methylene Blue Used to stain tissues and make them easier to see.
Compound Light Microscope Able to see organisms in 2d. Cheek cells, Worms, Bugs, Etc.
Electron Microscope Able to look at organisms in 3d. Organelles, Viruses, Etc.
Scanning Electron Microscope Looks at a complete exterior of an organism.
Transmission Electron Microscope pH Looks at a complete interior of an organism.
Alkaline/Basic Solution Have less hydrogen atoms with an electrical charge than water.
Acidic Solution Have more hydrogen atoms with an electrical charge than water.
Neutral Solution Hydrogen ions and hydroxide ions are equal. (pH = 7)
Buffer It is used to neutralize an acid or a base and keeps the pH even.
