Circle Theorems
These flashcards will help you to learn the circle theorems easily.
Term | Definition |
---|---|
Arc | A part of a curve, especially a part of the circumference of a circle. |
Major arc | An arc of a circle having measure greater than 180°. |
Minor arc | An arc of a circle having measure less than 180°. |
Semicircle | A half of a circle that measure 180°. |
Diameter | A straight line passing from side to side through the centre of a circle. |
Radius | A straight line from the centre to the circumference of a circle. |
Congruent arc | Two arcs that are both equal in measure. |
Chords | A line segment connecting two points on a curve. |
Bisect | To divide into two equal parts. |
Inscribed angle | The angle formed in the interior of a circle when two chords intersect on the circle. |
Tangent | A line that touches the edge of a curve or circle at one point, but does not cross it. |
Circumscribed angle | The angle made by two intersecting tangent lines to a circle. |
Central angle | An angle with its vertex at the center of a circle and with sides that are radii of the circle. |
Secant | A straight line that cuts a curve in two or more parts. |
