Module 1 Vocabulary
Rate, Unit Rate and Proportional Relationships on tables, graphs & word problems
Term | Definition |
---|---|
RATE | The comparison of two different units of measurement. |
UNIT RATE | The comparison of two different units of measurement where the second unit of measurement is always singular or 1. |
PROPORTIONAL RELATIONSHIP | A relationship between the input and output units of measurement that are related by a constant of proportionality. |
CONSTANT OF PROPORTIONALITY | Describes a proportional relationship when all of the unit rates calculated in a problem have the same value. |
INPUT | The value of the units of measurement that are represented on the x-axis on a graph and in the x column of a table. Units of Measurement include TIME |
OUTPUT | The value of the units of measurement that are represented on the y-axis on a graph and in the y column of a table. Units of Measurement include MONEY and DISTANCE |
CONSTANT RATE | A list of unit rates that are the same value. |
ORIGIN | The point where the x and y axis meet. The coordinate is (0,0) |
MULTIPLICATIVE RELATIONSHIP | Description of a proportional relationship where the input is always multiplied by the constant unit rate to generate the output. |
EQUATION | Two expressions made up of numbers, variables and math operations that are equal to each other. |
VARIABLE | A letter that represents a value we do not know |
UNITS OF MEASURE | A value of time, distance, money and weight. |
