Atomic Radius The distance from the shells to the center of the nucleus
Chemical Family A group on the Periodic table
EM Spectrum The distribution of electromagnetic according to frequency and wavelength
Electronnegativity The ability of an atom to attract/ accept electrons
Frequency How often a wavelength passes through
Ionic Radius The distance between the nucleus and the electron in the outermost shell
Ionization Energy The minimum amount of energy required to remove an electron
Isotopes Atoms of the same element with a different number of neutrons
Planck's Constant The energy of a quantum electromagnetic radiation divided by its frequency
Valence The relating or denoting of electrons involved in or available for chemical bond formation
Wavelength The distance between identical points
Alkali Metals Elements in group 1 (NOT Hydrogen)
Alkaline Earth Metals Elements in group 2
Atom Fundamental unit in which elements are composed, form ions by gaining or losing electrons
Atomic Number The number of protons in the nucleus of a given atom
Avg. Atomic Mass The weighted average mass of the atoms in naturally occurring sample of the element
Electrons A negatively charge subatomic particle found outside the nucleus
Electron Affinity The amount of energy released when an electron is added to a neutral atom to form an anion
Halogens Elements in group 17
Mass Number The total number of protons and neutrons inside the nucleus of a given atom
Neutrons Subatomic particles in the atomic nucleus with no charge
Noble Gases Elements in group 18
Nucleus Center of an atom, it contains all the atom' s mass and positive charge. It is very dense
Oxidation Numbers A number given to an element when electrons are lost
Photon A particle representing a quantum of light or other electromagnetic radiation
Proton A positively charged subatomic particle located inside the nucleus
Speed of Light Speed at which light waves propagate through different materials
Transition Metals Elements in groups 3-12, able to make various charges
