| physical geography | The land itself - physical features, bodies of water, climate, etic |
| latitude | The measurement in angular degrees north or south of the Earth's equator |
| longitude | The measurement in angular degrees east or west of the Earth's Prime Meridian |
| geography | the study of the world, its people, and the landscapes they create |
| absolute location | the latitude and longitude coordinates of a location |
| location/relative location | a general description of where a place is |
| population density | the amount of people living in an area |
| democracy | A form of government in which the people elect leaders and rule by majority |
| communism | a political system in which the government owns all property and dominates all aspect of life |
| theocracy | a government ruled by religious leaders |

| dictatorship | military rule by fear and force |

| command economy | An economic system where all business decisions are controlled by the government |
| market economy | an economic system where people/companies determine actions based upon market supply and demand |
| mixed economy | an economic system where there is some level of government involvement and some individual choices |
| GDP | The total value of all goods and services produced by a country in a single year |
| GDP Per Capita | the statistical average of the value of goods and services produced by each individual person in a given country |
| Standard of Living | What the quality of life for people in terms of health, education, wealth, etc. in a particular place is like. |
| Constitutional Monarchy | A king or queen shares power with other parts of government |
| Absolute Monarchy | A king or queen has total power and control over the government |
| Direct Democracy | People vote on all issues, laws, and rules for themselves |
| Representative Democracy (Republic) | People vote for people to vote on issues, laws, and rules for them |

| Landscape | The set of human and physical characteristics that make a place uinque |
| Social Science | a field of study that focuses on people and the relationships among them |
| Rural | Areas with open land, farms, and small towns instead of big cities |

| life expectancy | How long on average, people live in a country |
| literacy rate | The number of adults in a society who can read and write |
| Import | Anything a nation or buyer bring in from another country |
| Export | Anything a nation or seller sells to another country |
| Natural Resource | Things found in nature that people use |
| Monarchy | A king, queen, or emperor rules |
