integers positive and negative whole numbers
irrational number a number that cannot be written as a fraction such as a non-perfect square, non-terminating decimal or a non-repeating decimal
natural number positive counting numbers starting with 1
perfect square a number whose square root is an integer
rational number a number that can be written as a fraction, terminating decimal or repeating decimal
scientific notation a way of representing values as the product of a number between 1-10 and a power of ten
subset a set of which all the elements are also contained in another, larger set
whole number positive counting numbers starting with 0
terminating decimal a decimal which comes to an end and doesn't go on forever
repeating decimal a decimal which has repeating digits or a repeating pattern of digits
square root a number when multiplied by itself gives the original number
