Real Number System
Term | Definition |

integers | positive and negative whole numbers |
irrational number | a number that cannot be written as a fraction such as a non-perfect square, non-terminating decimal or a non-repeating decimal |
natural number | positive counting numbers starting with 1 |
perfect square | a number whose square root is an integer |
rational number | a number that can be written as a fraction, terminating decimal or repeating decimal |
scientific notation | a way of representing values as the product of a number between 1-10 and a power of ten |
subset | a set of which all the elements are also contained in another, larger set |
whole number | positive counting numbers starting with 0 |
terminating decimal | a decimal which comes to an end and doesn't go on forever |
repeating decimal | a decimal which has repeating digits or a repeating pattern of digits |
square root | a number when multiplied by itself gives the original number |
