6.3 Decimals

TermDefinition
Decimal A number with a decimal point, represented by the period. *Note: whole numbers have an implied decimal after the number ex. 4 = 4.
Place Value The value of where the digit is in the number.
Add Decimals -Line up the decimals vertically (up and down)- tf there is no decimal, it is assumed to be at the end. Ex. 6 = 6. -Fill in any blank spots with 0's -Add (remember to regroup if needed) -Bring down the decimal
Sum Answer to an addition problem

Subtracting decimal example word problems 1. Find the DIFFERENCE 2. How much change would you get or how much is left? 3. Finding the part when given the total and one part.
Multiply decimals -DO NOT Line up the decimals. Line the numbers up on the right. -Multiply. -Count the number of decimal places in both numbers in the original problem. This is the number of places in your answer.
