Math Terms Unit 1

There are important math terms for unit 1

TermDefinition
positive numbers numbers greater than 0
negative numbers numbers less than 0
opposites On a number line, they are the same distance from 0 but on different sides.
integers the set of all whole numbers and their opposites
inequality A mathematical statement showing that the relationship between quantities is not equal.
absolute value the distance from 0 on a number line; shown as | |
rational number a number that can be written as a/b; a and b are integers and b is not equal to 0.
least common multiple the least number that is a multiple of two of more numbers
greatest common factor the largest common factor or two or more given numbers
reciprocals two numbers whose product is one.
