Two-Dimensional Relationships TEK 5.5A

TermDefinition
Congruent Two things having the same size and shape.
Parallel Two lines that are the same distance apart, never touching.
Perpendicular A line that crosses another line at a 90° angle.
Isosceles Triangle A triangle having two sides of equal length.
Equilateral Triangle A triangle that has all sides or faces equal.
Scalene Triangle A triangle in which all three sides are a different length.
Polygon A flat figure that is made up of straight lines and is closed.
Rhombus Has four equal sides, opposite sides that are parallel, equal opposite angles.
Pentagon A figure that has five angles and five sides.
Square A flat geometric four-sided figure with right angles and with opposite sides parallel where all sides have equal length.
Rectangle A flat geometric four-sided figure with right angles and with opposite sides parallel.
Quadrilateral A flat, two-dimensional shape that has four sides and four corners.
Parallelogram A plane figure with four sides whose opposite sides are parallel and equal.
Trapezoid A quadrilateral. with at least one pair of parallel sides.
Right Angle An angle of 90 degrees.
Acute Angle An angle that is greater than 0 degrees and less than 90 degrees.
Obtuse Angle An angle that is greater than 90 degrees but less than 180 degrees.
Vertices The point at which two lines or edges meet.
