argumentative essay an essay that proves a claim is valid using evidence; it also acknowledges the counterclaim and provides a rebuttal
central idea the main idea of the text
literary element elements that are characteristic of all works of literature
claim an assertion of truth that can also have an opposing point of view
counterclaim a statement that opposes the original claim being made
figurative language figures of speech that increase the reader's understanding of a concept or idea
evidence facts or information that prove a claim or assertion is valid.
stanza a group of lines in a poem that form a unit
repetition the action of repeating words or phrases for effect
