Polynomials

Vocabulary

Monomial is a real number, a variable, or a product of real number and one or more variables with whole-number exponents.
Degree of a Monomial is a monomial or a sum of monomials.
Polynomial a polynomial that is written with the terms in order from greatest degree to least degree.
Standard Form of a Polynomial in one variable is the same as the degree of the monomial with the greatest exponent.
Binomial a polynomial with two terms which are not like terms
Trinomial a polynomial with three terms which are not like terms
Greatest Common Factor (GCF) The largest factor that two or more numbers have in common.
Factor Out "undistributing" by taking out the GCF. This rearranges the original expression but doesn't change it
Distributive Property a property indicating a special way in which multiplication is applied to addition of two or more numbers in which each term inside a set of parentheses can be multiplied by a factor outside the parentheses, such as a(b + c) = ab + ac
F.O.I.L Multiply each of the following terms in the binomials First Outside Inside Last
The Square of a Binomial the square of the binomial is the square of the first term plus twice the product of the terms plus the square of the last term (a + b)^2 = a^2 + 2ab + b^2 (a - b)^2 = a^2 - 2ab + b^2
The Product of the Sum and Difference The product of the sum and difference of the same two terms is the difference of their squares (a + b)(a - b) = a^2 - b^2
Perfect Square Trinomial it is the result of squaring a binomial
Factoring by Grouping If you factored trinomials of the form ax^2 + bx + c. by rewriting bx as a sum of two monomials. You then grouped the terms in pairs, factored the GCF from each pair and looked for a common binomial factor

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
