Number and Operations in Base Ten
| Term | Definition |

| place value | The value of where the digit is in the number. |
| greater than | is used to compare two numbers when the first number is larger than the second number. Represented by symbol >. |
| less than | is a symbol used to compare two numbers, with the lesser number given first 2<4 |
| equal to | A term that indicates the same amount, measure or quantity as another amount, measure or quantity. |
| comparisons/compare | Examine the difference between numbers, to decide if one number is greater than, or equal to another number. Examine how shapes are alike or different. |
| round | making a number simpler but keeping its value close to what it was. |
| inequality | that two values are not equal. |
| expression | Numbers, symbols and operators (such as + and ×) grouped together that show the value of something. |
| add | To bring two or more numbers (or things) together to make a new total. |
| addend | A number used in the mathematical operation of addition |
| sum | The result of addition |
| subtract | To take one number away from another. |
| difference | The result of subtracting one number from another |
| equation | says that two things are equal. It will have an equals sign "=" like this: 7 + 2 = 10 − 1 |
| rectangular arrays | An arrangement of objects into rows and columns that form a rectangle. All rows and columns must be filled . Each row has the same number of objects and each column has the same number of objects. |
| area model | A model for multiplication problems, in which the length and width of a rectangle represents the factors. |
| multiply | The basic idea is repeated addition to find a product. |
| divide | split into equal parts or groups. It is "fair sharing". |
| factor | numbers you can multiply together to get another number. |
| product | The answer when two or more numbers are multiplied together |
| quotient | The answer after you divide one number by another dividend ÷ divisor = ? |
| reasonableness | Within likely or sensible boundaries. |
