TermDefinition
tirade (tī´rād) n. A tirade is a long, angry speech. Examples: She launched into an angry/furious tirade about how she had been unfairly treated. In a furious tirade of abuse, the opposition spokesperson demanded the minister's resignation.
hunker (hŭng´kər) v. To hunker down means to stay in a place and focus on a task for a period of time. Example: The press have hunkered down for the night outside the palace, waiting for news of the royal birth.
snicker (snĭk´ər) n. A snicker is a superior, partially suppressed laugh. Example: What are you snickering at/about? People were staring and snickering.
confide (kən-f īd´) v. To confide means to share private or secret information. Example: He confided (to her) that his hair was not his own.
