Practice Figurative Language
| Term | Definition |

| Alliteration | Repeated consonant sounds at the beginning of words. "Betsy bought bigger bottoms for baby Billy." |
| Onomatopoeia | Words whose sound suggests its meaning. "Click the button to take the picture." |
| Metaphor | The comparison of 2 different objects or animals w/o using like or as. "The strawberry was a fresh summer day." |
| Simile | A comparison using “like” or “as.” "The student was as quiet as a mouse. |
| Hyperbole | An exaggeration to create an affect. The walk was a million miles long! |
| Personification | Giving human qualities to objects and animals. "The tree leaves danced in the wind." |
| Idiom | A phrase that has a meaning different from the dictionary definition. "The test was a piece of cake!" |
