Types of Internal Text Structures

TermDefinition
Enumeration or Listing To give a series or list of people, places, things, events, or ideas
Concept and Definition Gives the term and the terms definition
Compare and Contrast To explain and/or show how two or more things are alike and/or how they are different
Chronological-Sequential To list facts or events in chronological (time) order or in sequence
Cause and Effect To show how facts, events, or concepts (effects) happen because of other facts, events, or concepts (causes)
Process To give a series of events or explain a procedure or process in the order it happens
Generalization or Principle To explain something listing examples and characteristics
Problem Solution A problem and a list of one or more solutions for the problem
