Fraction Vocabulary

QuestionAnswer
Composite Number A whole number with more than TWO factors.
Prime Number A whole number with EXACTLY two factors.
Fraction A number that names part of whole or part of a group.
Numerator The top number in a fraction. It tells how many equal parts one has or is being used.
Denominator The bottom number in a fraction. It tells the total number of equal parts in the whole.
Equivalent Fractions Fractions that have the same value.
Benchmark Fractions Common fractions like 1/2 or one that are often used to compare or order numbers.
Unit Fractions A fraction with a numerator of 1.
Mixed Number A number that has both a whole number and a fraction.
Improper Fractions A fraction where the numerator is greater than the denominator.
Like Fractions Fractions with the same denominators.
Common Factors A factor that is shared by two or more given numbers.
