TermDefinition
What are the 2 main types of energy? Potential and Kinetic energy
Kinetic energy Energy an object has due to its motion
Potential energy Energy an object has due to its position
Mechanical energy The total or sum of energy associated with the motion and position of an object
Electrical energy Energy that is made available through the flow of electric current through a conductor
Light (radiant) energy Energy carried by light and other types of electromagnetic radiation
Chemical energy Energy stored in the bonds of chemical compounds that is released during reactions
Elastic energy Energy stored in an object when it is compressed or stretched
Nuclear energy Energy released when atoms split (fission) or join together (fusion)
Heat (thermal) energy Energy that's created by the movement of particles (atoms) that produce heat
Sound energy Energy transferred through a substance (medium) by a longitudinal wave
Gravitation energy Energy of an object due to its high position compared to a low position
Conduction The transfer of heat energy by direct contact
Convection The movement of heat by actual motion of matter
Radiation The transfer of energy with the help of electromagnetic waves
