| tone | A writer’s or speaker’s attitude toward a subject |
| formal style | A style of writing or speaking that is appropriate for formal communication such as in academics or business |
| rhetoric | The art of using words to persuade in writing and speaking |
| logos | When writers use logic that is backed up with evidence such as statistics and proven examples |
| pathos | When writers use language and examples that are meant to appeal to audience’s emotions and feelings |
| relevant | Closely connected to the matter at hand |
| sufficient | Enough for the purpose of supporting a claim or reason |
| persuade | To cause somebody to adopt a certain position of belief |
| connotation | Idea that is implied or suggested |
| diction | The manner in which something is expressed in words. |
