Magnetism
Term | Definition |
---|---|
Magnetic Field (B) | Produced by the motion of an electric charge relative to some reference point and surrounds every magnet |
Magnetic Domain | Clusters of aligned atoms |
Induced Magnetism | Metals that can be turned into temporary magnets |
Iron (Fe) | A metal that can be permanently magnetized by being placed in a strong magnetic field or being stroked with a magnet |
Magnetic Force | Force = Magnetic field x Current x Length (F =BIL) |
Tesla (T) | Unit of a Magnetic Field (B) |
Solenoid | A straight wire that can be looped to strengthen the magnetic field |
Right-hand Rule | Shows the direction of the force for a positive charge |
Magnetic Force | Force = charge x velocity x magnetic field (F = qvB) |
Magnetic Polarity | All magnetics have a North and South Pole |
