QuestionAnswer
What is "Magnetism?" The properties and interactions of magnets.
What is a "Magnetic Field?" A magnetic field is a region of space that surrounds a magnet and exerts a force on other magnets and objects made of magnetic materials.
What is "Magnetic Poles?" Regions of a magnet that exert the strongest force.
What is "Magnetic Domains?" Magnetic domains are a group of atoms with aligned magnetic poles.
What is a "Electromagnetic Force?" An electromagnetic force is the attractive or repulsive force between electric charges and magnets.
What is "Electromagnetism?" Electromagnetism is the interaction between electric charges and a magnet.
What is "Solenoid?" A solenoid is a single wire wrapped into a cylindrical wire coil.
What is a "Electromagnet?" An Electromagnet is a temporary magnet created when there is a current in a wire coil.
What is a "Galvanometer?" A galvanometer is a device that uses an electromagnet to measure electric current.
What is a "Electric Motor?" An electric motor is a device that changes electrical energy into mechanical energy.
What is "Electromagnetic Induction?" A electromagnetic induction is the generation of an electric current by a changing magnetic field.
What is a "Generator?" A generator uses electromagnetic induction that transforms mechanical energy into electrical energy.
What is a "Direct Current?" A direct current, otherwise known as DC, is electric current that is always one direction through a wire
What is a "Alternating Current?" A alternating current, otherwise known as AC, is an electric current that reverses the direction in a regular pattern.
What is a "Transformer?" A transformer is a device that increases or decreases the voltage of a alternating current.

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.

To see how well you know the information, try the Quiz or Test activity.
